Thailand is a Southeast Asian
country that is landlocked in between Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia.
Geographically the regional area is very hot and humid due to it being on the
coast of the Pacific ocean and the country being quite close to the equator. The
average temperature being 36 Celsius, the daily weather still is divided into 3
seasons such as hot, cool and wet. Hot season is from March to June. While they
have the wet season from June to October. Then from November to February it is
the cool season and is the best time to travel there if you would prefer a less
hot and humid weather. Thailand’s currency is the Baht and 1 US dollar is equal
to 31.74… Thai Baht. The country has a constitutional monarchy which means they
have a king and a president who represents the National Assembly of Thailand.
Thailand is a cosmopolitan country
but 95% of the population (70 million) is Theravada Buddhists making most of
the cultural practices related to Buddhism, but Hinduism has had quite the bit
of a influence thus you can see a lot of similarities between Thai and Indian art
and etc., What unifies the cosmopolitan citizens is the language; Thai. But there
are many festivals which are connected to the religions. For example Yi Peng
the lantern festival. It’s a festival that takes place every year during November
according to the lunar calendar. Its celebrated only when the moon is full to
raise the thousands of lanterns which the people raise to ask for good luck and
fortune. The Ghost Festival is held on the weekend of the 6th full moon of the
lunar calendar. It usually has the main parade on the Friday with pageants and
music on the Saturday and Buddhist ceremonies on the Sunday. The Lopburi Monkey Banquet
is a festival which is enjoyed by monkeys and tourists since the locals set a
feast for the monkeys with fruits and vegetables. The tourists are also allowed
to add to the table but they must be careful of the monkeys stealing their
belongings.
Thailand and
Mongolia worship the same religion but different in the type, so they have some
different festivals and cultural practices but the roots are same. These two
countries both celebrate lunar new years but Thailand celebrates the Chinese
New Year while Mongolia celebrates it a little bit differently. I believe that
their culture is different from ours because they have a different religion,
history and origins. Other countries (neighbors) influenced the culture a lot too,
plus every country is different and unique, and we have different types of citizens,
different lands and different histories .
